Move-Out Cleaning Checklist for Alabama Renters & Homeowners
Moving is stressful enough. Use this room-by-room checklist to make sure your home is spotless before you hand over the keys.
Whether you're leaving a rental in Prattville, selling a home in Wetumpka, or moving across Montgomery, a thorough move-out cleaning can protect your security deposit, impress buyers, and give you peace of mind. Here's a complete checklist you can follow room by room.
Kitchen
- Clean inside all cabinets and drawers (wipe crumbs, shelf liner residue)
- Wipe down cabinet fronts and handles
- Clean countertops, backsplash, and sink
- Clean inside the oven, microwave, and refrigerator
- Wipe down the dishwasher door and interior edges
- Degrease the stovetop and range hood
- Clean light fixtures and switch plates
- Sweep and mop the floor, including under appliances
Bathrooms
- Scrub the tub, shower walls, and shower door (remove soap scum and mildew)
- Clean and sanitize the toilet inside and out
- Wipe down the vanity, mirror, and medicine cabinet
- Clean tile grout and caulk lines
- Wipe light fixtures, exhaust fan, and towel bars
- Sweep and mop the floor
Bedrooms & Living Areas

Garage, Patio & Exterior
- Sweep the garage floor
- Wipe down shelving and storage areas
- Sweep the front porch, back patio, and entryways
- Clean the front door and door frame
Final Walk-Through
- Check every light switch and outlet cover for smudges
- Open every door and closet to confirm nothing was missed
- Run the HVAC and check the air filter
- Take photos of every room for your records
